WIGAN-BASED haulier G&J Lockwood is to play a major part in a new British attempt to break the land speed record.

Lockwood, based in Appley Bridge, Lanes, will transport the 5.5-tonne Bloodhound supersonic car from the project team's workshop in Bristol to the run at a yet to be announced location and date.

The firm will also transport the 12.8m show vehicle and car to events in the UK and abroad.

Bloodhound driver Andy Green — assisted by project director Richard Noble will attempt to travel at more than 1,000mph.

The present world land speed record is 763mph, set by Green and a team led by Noble at the Black Rock Desert, Nevada, USA, in 1997 Graham Lockwood, director, says: "G&I Lockwood is thrilled to be involved in such a project."
