Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Hauliers should think twice before they invest in "green" gadgets and liquids which claim to reduce fuel consumption and cut emissions, says the advertisement watchdog Advertising Standards Authority.

The ASA, which had upheld complaints from the public about four products, says the manufacturer's claims could not be backed by scientific evidence. The ASA takes its advice from non-commercial specialists.

One of the four products, Greentune, made by Greenglobe Systems, cost £49.95 and claims to "convert all vehicles to unleaded ... increase performance... reduce exhaust emissions". However, the ASA says these claims could not be substantiated and has asked Greentune to withdraw its ads.

Greentune said the company would continue to make these claims and that now most cars are sold converted to unleaded fuel "the potential for marketing the product for use in diesel engines, stressing its mpg and emission advantages, was very big".
