GREATER London Council planning and communications committee chairman Shelagh Roberts said this week that large scale bans on heavy lorries in London were not a practical proposition.
She was commenting on a report to the committee which said that a ban on vehicles over 16 tons would add about £150m a year to haulage costs.
The ban would also mean that the council would have to find 250 acres of land for transfer terminals and cause a "disproportionate" increase in the number of vehicles being used to carry the same traffic.
