unit called the Smiths Excess Fuel Valve. This is an automatic control device to cut out the induction priming pump once the engine has started. It is said that the unit can be fitted to all vehicles with Perkins engines and has been approved by Perkins Engines, Ltd.

Measuring only 3 in. x 14 in. x 11 in. the unit is a solenoid-operated valve which is normally opened when the solenoid is deenergized. It is fitted in the suction. pipeline between the fuel tank and the priming pump. Fuel can only be fed to the pump whilst the engine is at rest as the solenoid is energized by the dynamo and the valve is therefore closed automatically once the engine has been started.

Available from Smiths Jacking Systems at Witney, Oxon, the Smiths Excess Fuel Valve is sold as a kit of parts complete with all pipe unions and illustrated fitting instruction at a retail price of £4.
