Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• TNT Truckcare plans to extend its nationwide network of service centres in a bid to boost its share of the contract maintenance and commercial vehicle servicing markets.

It currently has 63 service points in the UK including 27 White Arrow maintenance sites as a nominated sub-contractor.

TNT group chief engineer Alan Parker says: "What I am looking at is extending the existing network and filling in some of the geographical areas."

The extra centres could be provided by existing truck dealers, either franchised or independent, "... as long as they are willing to operate within our policies and procedures", says Parker. "We have an Operator's Licence therefore our standards must reflect that, even through sub-contractors." Truckcare currently turns over up to £9m a year. Parker believes that revenue could be

boosted by another by running the existing network at full capacity. Much of the new business is expected to come from own-account operators running 30-50 trucks.

"Not only can we provide servicing through Truckcare centres, but we could also occupy and run the customers' own facilities on a contract basis, or even build a dedicated facility on their site run by our staff or by a nominated subcontractor," says Parker.

Truckcare was originally set up in 1984 to maximise the workshop capacity within TNT Express's network of parcels depots.
