• West Yorkshire bodybuilder Roco Bodies has doubled its production rapacity by opening a 1,300m2 (14,000ft2) factory in Low Moor, near Bradford.

Roco specialises in sideaccess bodywork; more than 90% of its orders come from within a 50-mile radius.

Several examples were on display at the opening of the new plant, including a Leyland Daf 65.210 with 7.3m curtainsider body and Sesam opening roof for Huddersfield haulier All Dews & Sons. An MAN 10.153 with Stronghold insulat ed curtains and Hubbard 665 hydraulically driven fridge unit is for Hill Green Dairies of Tong village near Bradford.

The new £500,000 works has six double-length bays enabling family-owned Roco to take on volume orders.

The company's workforce has been expanded to 50 with the recruitment of another 10 tradesmen and four more apprentices. Managing director Ronald Obank says: "The City & Guilds-based apprenticeships are necessary for our long-term future."
