I thought it was about time I wrote on the supposed shortage of hgv drivers. I hold an hgv Class I licence and do you think I can get a well-paid job? Not on your life. I can get a job tomorrow at £37.74 for a 60-hour week, and £2 a night out; there are plenty of these in the West Country all right.

I have been doing temporary work for four months and am now looking for full-time employment. I have already written to firms in the Midlands with no success, and would even sell my house and move for a full-time, well-paid job. It makes me sick to keep on reading about the shortage when there are 10 hgv drivers applying for the same job even when it is in a rough area.
