AT Lincoln last week, an application by a Grimsby haulage contractor. Mr. J. Kitching, to " split" a B licence was refused by the East Midland Deputy Licensing Authority, Mr. A. R. M. Ellis. Mr. Kitching had applied for a variation of a B licence Sc) that it could be split for carrying goods between Ciainsborough and Grimsby on one lorry, and carrying goods within a 10-mile radius of Grimsby Town Hall on the other. Mr. Ellis said there was insufficient evidence to warrant the granting of a licence that would bring another vehicle into use.

Mr. D. B. Wilson, for the applicant, said now that Spillers, Ltd., for whom Mr. Kitching carried goods, had moved from Grimsby to Gainsborough, he was able to make only one journey a day. The lorry had to be loaded at Gainsborough and remain loaded overnight, delivery being made next day.

Questioned by Mr. A. C. G. Rothera, for the road objectors to the application, he said he had not been doing any haulage within a 10-mile radius of Cirirnsby for about a year. He had been told that if the variation of his licence was granted, there would be plenty of work for him.
