Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

/ Hauliers who want to replate their trucks to take advantage of the heavier weights to be introduced next January should contact the Vehicle Inspectorate now to avoid being caught in a pre-Christmas rush.

John McGinn, head of the VI's centralised operations branch, says: "If there's a big rush in December there's no way we'll get them all plated by 1 January."

He says operators with all their depots in one area should apply to their local district offices for the £13.90 re-plating on form VTG10, quoting the DOT reference number on their existing plates. Hauliers with depots spread nationwide can contact the Vi's Swansea-based Goods Vehicle Centre direct.

Eligible trucks which are fitted with road friendly suspension will be issued with plates and documentation at the end of the year, says McGinn.
