• A special type of tandem semi-trailer for carrying coils of steel strip has been designed and manufactured by Hoy Trailers, Dunstable, Beds, for specialized use by Galloways, of Blaydon-on-Tyne, a subsidiary of the British Steel Corporation_ The order was placed by body builder R. B. Massey, Ltd, of Market Weighton, Yorks.

The semi-trailer, 331t long, has a gcw of 32 tons, and the gross trailer weight is 27 tons.

Over two-thirds of the length of the body is occupied by a well, 8in. deep, and divided into four bays, which will accommodate four coils of steel strip, each up to 51t wide and 5ft in diameter.

Fitted with Hands Neway RTS suspension and Rubery Owen 9-ton axles, the all-welded chassis frame incorporates rolled-steel universal beam main members, with pressed-steel cross-members, outriggers and side raves. Flooring, of lkin. hardwood, was constructed by R. B. Massey.
