• The union representing British Fuels' 120 drivers is recommending that its members accept the oil company's offer to increase pay by £4.50 a week.
The Transport & General Workers Union won the increase after only a day of negotiations. It would boost the drivers' basic pay to £234.50 for a 40-hour week.
The drivers are being balloted on the deal and their votes will be counted within two weeks. TGWU northern region commercial officer Maurice Britton expects the drivers will accept the Harrogate-based firm's offer.
Britton is handling the talks for the drivers of 17-38-tonne trucks, based at 25 depots.
