We are unable to publish the letter from Mr. A. W. Bell, on the subject the AVinnipeg agricultural-motor trials, to which we made brief reference last week. It contains supplementaryexplanations and instructions for intending competitors, and we shall be happy to forward a copy to any interested supporter.

We may recall the fact that Nelsons own a fleet of MimesDaimler five-tonners, and that many vans of the same make have been exported to Mexico and other countries for like service.

The Parade.

Owners whose vehicles or tractors are within running distance of London should write at once for parade entryforms. It will serve their interests to let drivers go in for the cash prizes of El to .E5, whilst the points which should also appeal to them are the opportunities for advertisement and comparison. The parade will certainly be one of the beat-reported fixtures of the month. As we go to press, we learn that the Eastern Motor Wagon Co., Ltd., will enter a "team" of six Yoden wagons for THE COMMERCIAL MOTOR Cup.

Considerable increases have been necessary in the London repair and maintenance staff of the Albion Co.

The Southend Town Council has bought a Tasker wagon, with tipping and water-cart bodies, at the price of S:700.

Brown Bros., Ltd., of Gt. Eastern Street, E.C., has added two extra telephone lines ; the company's numbers now are 3700 and 6300 Wall, and these cover no fewer than eight lines.

The net amount of duty received on motor spirit, from the 1st June, 1909, to 31st March, 1910, was no less than £305,000; of this amount, £191,039 was collected in the London area.

Sir William Collins is endeavouring to hasten action by the London County Council, under the Metropolitan Ambulance Act of 1909. The. Council obtain.' Parliamentary powers, last year, .as reported by us at the time, to provide motor ambulances.

The Health Committee of the Liverpool Corporation has authorized the City Engineer, Mr. .J. A. Brodie, to obtain tenders for a motar ambulance.

The Westminster City Council has placed a further order for Polack tires, and has decided to offer no objection to the application of the Wolseley Tool and Motor Car Co., Ltd., to keep 10,000 gallons of petroleum spirit at Gatliff Wharf.

We are glad to learn that Mr. W. Rees Jeffreys, Secretary of the Motor Union and of the Commercial Motor Users' Association, is making satisfactory progress as a convalescent. He has been laid up, for nearly two months, with typhoid fever.

Mr. Edward Manville has been reelected President of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders; Mr. Albert Brown and Mr. S. P. Edge havebeen elected Vice-presidents. The Management Committee for the ensuing year, we observe, includes the following new members: Albert Brown; Raymond Dennis ; Frank W. Shorland ; J. D. Siddeley.

Rural Transport.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer has accepted an amendment to his Bill, and agreed that there shall be only eight Development Commissioners. The following have been appointed : Lord Richard Cavendish (Chairman); Sir Francis Hopwood, permanent Under-Secretary at the Colonial Office (Vice-chairman); Mr. EardleyWilmot, Inspector-General of Forests under the Government of India; Mr. William S. Haldane, Writer to the Signet and land agent, Edinburgh; Mr. Alfred Daniel Hall, director of the Retharnsted Experimental Station; Mr. Sidney Webb, the wellknown writer on economic: and social subjects; Mr. M. A. Ennis, of Dublin, Vice-chairman of the Wexford Colinty Council ; Mr. Henry J. Davies, of Carmarthen, former Chairman of the County Council. These Commissioners will have power to make advances or grants for the purpose of " improvement of rural transport," but only in consultation with the Road Board. The Road Board has yet to be appointed, but, as we explained at length in our issue of the 2fird December last, when dealing with the Act in detail, it behoves any parties who desire to have a share in the disbursement of the E500,000 per annum, which is, from the 1st ult. and for not less than four years, placed at the disposal of the Develop-ment Commissioners, to formulate their schemes. No trader is eligible, but a public' authority, an institution, a university, a school, a college., or an association of persons or company not trading for profit is.

Considerable enlargements have recently been made to the foundry at the works of Argylls, Ltd.

The South-Eastern and Chatham Railway announces further improvements in its Continental services, and an acceleration, by 2.5 minutes, of the 10 a.m. service to Paris via Folkestone. Rochdale Cleansing Department.

We note that Rochdale is considering the purchase of two petrol-driyen motorvans for dust and refuse removal. Mr. F. W. Ilrookman is the head of the Sanitary Depertmeet, and he in August, 1900, voted in support of the millernoted resolution. which, following the reading of a paper by The Editor at the Salford Town Hall, was ndopted on the motion of Mr. W.
