• As Workshop goes to press the Vehicle Inspectorate (VI) is due to publish its specification for exhaust testing equipment on di eselengined vehicles over 3.5 tonnes.

The opacity meters will be used for the free acceleration smoke test that comes into force in September.

The smoke test will be carried out outside VI test stations: it will comprise up to 10 accelerations from idle to governed speed.
