Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• New regulations covering paintshops and workshops come into effect from 1 April.

Under the Environmental Protection Act, paintshops will have to keep records of their solvent use to prove they are under the two-tonne limit.

Under the duty of care section of the Act, everyone producing industrial waste will be responsible for its proper disposal.

For the disposal of workshop and paintshop waste such as used

Lyres, oil and solvents, a conveyance note will have to be made out, with details of the type and quantity of waste and who is taking it away.

Waste carriers and disposal sites will have to be registered. If any of these regulations are broken a mandatory £20,000 fine will he imposed on the waste producer.

The legislation as it applies to paintshops is about to be published: for full details see the next issue of Workshop.
