Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• United Road Transport Union general-secretary Frank Griffin was unsuccessful last week in the High Court in his application for an injunction to silence his union.

But Mr Justice Brooke agreed to speed up another High Court hearing which will finally arbitrate over the row between Griffin and his union. This hearing will not take place until after next month's election for URTU general-secretary which is being contested by Griffin and two other candidates.

Griffin wanted an injunction to prevent publication of an URTU committee decision made in January because he refutes its decision and says the committee failed to observe union rules and the rules of natural justice. The union and four executive members are contesting the action.

The row erupted when the meeting upheld a complaint by North-East officer David Higginbottorn against Griffin. He claimed that Griffin had written a letter aimed at discrediting his election campaign.
