• Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners at Leeds on Thursday, February 25, granted the application of East Yorkshire Motor Services Ltd to increase fares from March 7 in the East Riding and Hull area by between lp and 4p. A company spokesman told the Commissioners that East Yorks had had a disastrous year in 1970/71 pointing out that after setting itself a target profit of £130,000 the company had ended the year with a surplus of £12,000. For the company, Mr P. English said heavy wage increases accounted for a rise of £.110,000 in operating costs in 1971 and next year's figure was estimated at £124,000.
The application would bring in 05,000 in the current year and £100,000 next year.
The chairman of the Commissioners, Maj-Gen Sir John Potter, in approving the application, said they had taken into account the company's acute financial state, their efforts to make economies, and the financial consequences if the increase was not allowed.
