Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AIIRANGEMENTS have been concludedcluded by which Wallace Arnold Tours, Ltd., of Leeds, will operate the series of extended' tours by coach run by Homeland Motor Coach Tours, Ltd., in pre-war years.

The latter company's title was previously M.7. Co., Motor Coaches, Ltd. Its present name is that under which the tours were arranged. The change has been found necessary mainly for the reason that the Homeland concern could not make the hotel arrangements to recommence this business.

Wallace Arnold Tours, Ltd., can do so, however, because of its extensive touring business and its ownership of, or financial interest in, certain hotels. In many instances it books hotels to accommodate its tourists daily throughout the season.

Homeland Tours will continue activity and interest in the touring business built up, as managing agent in London for Wallace Arnold Tours, Ltd. The ticket booking agency organization of P.S.V. Operators, Ltd., will be employed, and charting will be done at its office at 8, Park Lane, Croydon.

A 14-day tour to Scotland, to run weekly from the end of May at a charge of £35, has been organized, but, unlike the Homfland arrangements, all Wallace Arnold Tours charges are inclusive, covering lunch and tea. Arrangements have also been concluded for the seven-day Devon tours• at a price which is expected to be £17. The organization of Lake District and other ?Jars is in hand.

HIRE CAR ORDER NOW IN FORCE

LAST Monday the Motor Fuel (Car Hire) Order, 1948 (S.1. 1948, No. 386) came into force. It prohibits, except under certain conditions, the use of motor fuel in a hire car or taxicab beyond a radius of-20 miles from the place where the vehicle is ordinarily

The Order also forbids the use-of motor fuel for taxicab journeys of more than five miles outside the area in which the vehicle is licensed or outside a radius of 20 miles from the place where it is ordinarily kept, whichever is the greater.

If no other reasonably practicable facilities exist, hire cars and taxis may be used outside these restricted areas, without a licence, "for a necessary and urgent domestic purpose and any necessary purpose in connection with the hirer's profession or business." They may not, however, be employed outside the restricted areas for any other purpose unless a licence has been obtained from the Regional Petroleum Officer.

PARK ROYAL ON PARADE

AN illustrated catalogue showing many examples of bodywork by , Park Royal Vehicles, Ltd., London, N.W,10, and details of the methods of construction used by the company, has been issued. A particularly interesting type illustrated is a Thornycroft sixwheeled, 20-seater long-distance coach for the Iraq State Railway.

BETTER SERVICE FOR HIGHER PAY

AN offer by the London Transport Executive of an increase in wages of 7s. 6d. a week and payment of timeand-a-half for werrk on Sundays by adult grades of the traffic staff, was accepted last week by a delegate conference of London Transport operatives.

The Transport and General Workers' Union agreed to co-operate with the Executive in trying to improve the quality of service, and a joint application is to be made to the Minister of Transport for the relaxation of the " five-standing "' rule, to enable eight standing passengers to be carried during the permitted hours. The staff will work unscheduled overtime, when required, to cover sporting, social and other special events.

Having regard to this increase in wages, it is unlikely that the provincial workers will forego their claim for higher pay in response to the Government's plea for the pegging of wages except in specified instances.
