0 ur team of judges—all experienced fleet engineers, service managers and technical advisors—are to be congratulated on their endeavours, fortitude and great patience.

Having searched through the vast amount of entry material submitted and chosen their category winners, they then faced the daunting task of electing just one of them for the ultimate accolade.

With this glittering array of extremely worthy category winners to choose from, our team of bravehearts just rolled their sleeves up, sharpened their pencils and began their discussions.

In Dry Freight, Don-Bur's Palletmaster Evolution lived up to its high-class pedigree and proved a worthy category winner, whilst United Trailers' novel sliding bogie tipping trailer has great potential for road repairers working on narrow winding roads.

The Bulker group, which looked like a Yuill & Dodds testimonial fleet, turned out to be a battle between two ejector trailers and one that simply "walked" refuse out. The trio looked superb but Knapen's versatile Cargo-Walk had side-opening and could backload, which helped it to win its group.

Choosing the best tanker proved much more difficult; all three were outstanding vehicles in their own right, especially Crossland's vacuum tanker which was built for the most difficult rental sector.

But Clayton Commercials' bitumen tanker had resulted from a lengthy and exacting tendering programme, it deservedly won the Tanker crown and, despite formidable opposition in the Safety category, its high specification for the hot bitumen trade placed it well above the rest.

Sinclair Refrigerated Vehicles' superb entry—the Chereau Tecnogam—deservedly took the Temperature Controlled award and gave its owner, Puileyn Transport, some well-deserved prominence.

The Special Purpose finalists proved a hugely varied and thus more difficult group to judge. Unique's Cab carrier and Dennison's versatile low loader both shone brightly but the vote finally went to the updated Steelbro con tainer lifter from Containerltft Sales. Despite some formi dable opposition, Christian Salvesen's outstanding drawbar package earned the Fleet category laurels.

Our new Designer of the year category attracted some simply remarkable entries and all impressed the judges, but they were finally swayed by the creative thought and manufacturing involved with Paneltex's highly complex product distribution and home delivery system.

Collectively, the category winners were an impressive group, each a superb example of the very best in engineering and design.

After much debate and by a majority decision, the team chose the superbly crafted drawbar outfit from Christian Salvesen. Our hearty congratulations to the many suppliers involved with the build spec' and to the man behind the concept— group fleet services and procurement director Steve Mercer.
