Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Drivers who park their trucks overn/ght in Southampton Dock's carpark will now be charged £10 for the privilege.

The troubled port, infamous for lengthy delays and tailbacks stretching out of the terminal, Mposed the charge on 1 June. Tickets can be bought from the port's security from 4.00pm each day and drivers are only allowed to park until 5.30am the next day.

One owner-driver, who regularly uses the port, is astonished that the terminal has introduced the charge so soon after the recent congestion problems.

"It's a bloody cheek," blasts John Whittaker. "I think they have something against lorry drivers; if they can make your life as difficult as possible they will do it. It's the owner-drivers that will get hammered."

Whittaker adds that drivers get nothing for their money because there is a lack of suitable facilities, such as showers or a canteen.

A spokesman for the contamer terminal says: 'We don't know a great deal about it. There are problems with lorries parking up, but ABP is looking at it. It owns the port itself."

A spokesman for ABP was not available for comment as CM went to press.
