the basis of a bus built by J. H. Jennings and Son Ltd., of Sandbach, and recently presented to the Nottinghamshire County Council Welfare Services for the physically handicapped by the Friends of the Mansfield Centre. The money to buy this vehicle was raised by voluntary subscription in the Mansfield area, where the bus will be used exclusively by spastics, both for visits to hospital and on pleasure trips.
Designed to carry 11 sitting passengers on tip-up seats around the sides, five wheelchairs or a combination of the two, the vehicle has an Autolift of Blackburn electric hydraulic ambulance step at the rear. There is a wide, sliding door at the front nearside with a hinge-down step and the centre windows on both sides are emergency drop glasses. A wooden luggage rack runs the length of the vehicle on the roof with a detachable aluminium ladder to reach it, whilst provision is made for the carriage of extra fire extinguishers, a large first-aid box and a stretcher. Parcel racks are built into the inside roof corners. The interior headroom is 6 ft. and the overall 'length of the vehicle is 19 ft. 2 in.
