Mr. C. B. Sebire, receiver and manager to Redburns Transport, Ltd., 400404, Moorgate Station Chambers, London, E.C.2, has applied • to the Metropolitan Licensing Authority for A licences for a large number of vehicles authorized to the company, the licences of which will be surrendered if the application be granted. The application covers 28 vehicles (144 tons 5 cwt.), a hiring allowance of two vehicles and a trailer (17 tons 18 cwt.) and 22 trailers (86 tons 10 cwt.) for the transport of general goods. The company's base is at Enfield.

Mechanization, Ltd., Windsor Street, Cheltenham, has applied to the Western Licensing Authority for A licences for 10 vehicles (36 tons 131 cwt.) and three trailers (6 tons 8 cwt.) owned by Mr. C. Gay.

No Appearance--No Licence.

Applicants who fail to attend proceedings when their applications are to be heard were rebuked by Sir John Maxwell, Northern Licensing Authority, at Carlisle. He said that on the next occasion when applicants were not present and did not explain their reasons for being absent, he would refuse their applications immediately.

Sir John also criticized applicants who could not give reasons for wanting additional vehicles.

Welding Vital in Motor Manufacture.

References to the importance of welding in motor-vehicle construction were made by prominent speakers at a luncheon given, last week, by the British Oxygen Co., Ltd., to celebrate the official opening of its new head office at Thames House, MilIbank, London, S.W.1.

Among those present at the luncheon were Dr. J. Donald Pollock, 0.B.E., LL.D., chairman of the company, Messrs. S. J. L. Hardie, vice-chairman, P. B. Liversidge, E. W. S. Sprott and C. Dunbar, joint managing directors, n18
