AN efficient cleaning tank may be classed* among the necessities of the equipment for a repair shop which deals with a large fleet of vehicles. An appliance of this kind, -which sells at about £30, has recently been introduced to the commercial users of this country by Messrs. A. E. Menuge, of Worplesdon, Surrey.
The product in question is known as the Automatikus and is unusual inasmuch as it is equipped with a heavy, well-fitted lid. It is not necessary for the operator to deposit on the ground the object which he may be carrying to the tank for cleaning before be can raise the lid, a special arrangement having been made for lifting this part, whereby he simply steps on a metal board which is secured to two hinged arms. The board is held off the ground, when the tank is not in use, by the weight of the lid, to which it is attached by strong chains.
A centrifugal-type pump, operated by a form of treadle, is provided to force the cleaning mixture from the sump of the tank. The liquid is directed with considerable force from a length of hose, which is fitted with a high-pressure nozzle, and thus grease and dirt can be easily and quickly cleaned from any dismantled engine parts.
The main advantages of the Automatikus appliance are _provided by the lid, which imprisons any unpleasant fumes generated in the tank—incidentally, this lid also protects the contents of the appliance from fire—and by the filter, which is 'incorporated in the rump,, avoiding waste of cleaning oil, ensuring a supply of clean liquid and preventing the necessity for constant changes of the oil.
