Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Where will all the new drivers come from?

HAVING READ the article on Hewicks Haulage (CM 21 June), I couldn’t agree more with Carl Brinkley’s (pictured left) comments on the lost generation of drivers.

Most of the drivers I know grew up around trucks and did their apprenticeship from the age of five. As Carl said, kids are no longer allowed to go with their dads when they drive trucks. Where are we going to find youngsters that want to get up at 2am, work for 15 hours, be unappreciated and go to bed without a shower, while sleeping in a lay-by with inadequate toilet facilities? I don’t know the answer – but somebody needs to start thinking of one. Matthew Kibble Matthew Kibble Transport
