• THE ROAD Transport Industry Training Board has published a health and safety manual for repair workshops. It covers legislation and codes of practice relating to employees, customers and the public.

Topics covered include the workshop environment, asbbestos code, lighting, dust, fumes, noise, machinery and hazardous substances.

The RTITB will be producing other manuals shortly covering body repair workshops, parts distribution, forecourt operations, personal safety and accident prevention.

Copies of the health and safety manual can be obtained from the RTITB's publication department, High Ercall, Telford. They cost £9.95 a copy.

The Road Transport Industry Training Board has opened a £160,000 purpose-built vehicle body repair training centre at its MOTEC site at Livingston.

The 740m2 (8,000ft workshop has all the latest equipment, much of which has been donated.

Courses to be run at Body Trades UK include vehicle body repair, vehicle painting and repair estimating. The centre will also be available for hire.
