A SURVEY OF LORRY-MOUNTED CRANES

AVAILABLE IN THE UK by Trevor Longcroft INQUIRIES from readers this year suggest that more operators are endeavouring to reduce vehicle turnround time and their costs by fitting driver-operated loaders/unloaders to their vehicles.

In order to help operators who wish to fit these devices we have summarized the products available from UK manufacturers and concessionaires who replied to our request for information.

AC

Associated Industrial & Mechanical Engineers Ltd, Goodley Works, Caine Road, Oakworth, Keighly 13022 7PD

Apart from truck application, AC's three cranes can be trolley-mounted and used as mobile hoists; maximum lift capacities are 1, 1.6 and 2.5 tonnes respectively. The cranes are available with either electro-hydraulic jib extension and elevation, or as hand-hydraulic or electro-hydraulic models with manually operated jibs; 12V or 24V electro-hydraulic pump motors can be supplied.

Models feature two-speed 360deg stewing action, though the lightest may be fitted with a "handbrake"control.

The vehicle-mounted sub-frame, including the fully adjustable support leg, weighs 117kg (2.3cwt) and the heaviest capacity model with electro-hydraulic jib elevation and extension weighs 331kg (6.5cwt). The company claims that cranes can be removed from vehicles in a few minutes.
