Angle grinders

Double-insulated angle grinders and sanders now Introduced by Wolf Electric Tools Ltd., although similar in outward appearance to the earlier models, have a number of design rno-dificatons. They include completely new windings for the armature and field; improved cooling techniques with a new fan ventilation system; and a restyled transmission. The makers claim that these are the only doubleinsulated angle grinders {British or foreign), to have been awarded the BSI Kite-Mark.

The right-angle drive is achieved by using spiral bevel gears providing smoother running.

There are 7in. and 9in. models available, the smaller type, DI-S7 heavy-duty sander accepting either a 7in. diameter sanding disc or a 4-in. cup grinding wheel. This machine has a free spindle speed of 4,200 rpm, while on full load this speed is 3,300 rpm.

An intermediate model, the DI-J7B/DI-J9B will serve as a heavy-duty angle grinder using either 7in. or 9in. grinding discs and has spindle speeds of 8,000 rpm running light and 6,250 rpm on load with the 7in. disc:6,000 and 4-,800 rpm respectively with the 9in.

discs. A third model, type DI-GS9, will do service as a heavy sander/grinder carrying either a 9in. disc or a 4in. cup wheel. Spindle speeds of 4,000 and 3,000 rpm are achieved in the lightand full-load conditions.

Made by: Wolf Electric Tools Ltd., Hanger Lane, London, W5.

Price: DI-S7 E34 10s; DI-J7B £45 10s; Di-J93 £47 19s 6d; DI-GS9 £41 10s.

Coachlining

A simple method of neat, even coachlining utilizing two Sellotape self-adhesive products —Polyester Thermo-setting 1607, and release-coated Cellulose 11 09 Tapes—has been evolved by the Coach Works division of the Endeavour Motor Co. Ltd. of Newhaven, Sussex.

The Polyester 1607 is positioned along the intended route of the coachline. Then, leaving a 0.25M. tab of 1607 protruding at one end,

the rest is covered by the cellulose tape in which two small, angled cuts are made near the tab to give a -start-.

To create the stencil the tab is pulled in a similar way to. the tear-strip on a cigarette packet. Since the cellulose tape has no grain along its machine length—and the 1607 is thin, strong and does not stretch or lift—a perfect tear-through is achieved. The edges of the cellulose tape are then smoothed down, and the resulting gap painted. The used stencil is removed leaving a perfect coachline. Liquid-level gauge

Vactric Control Equipment Ltd. is now producing' a liquid-level gauge. known as the Vactric Tedeco, which shows the fluid-level in gearboxes and other containers or housings which have a wide range of level variation. The exact level of the liquid can be observed, either during operation to note any change, or during refilling to check the exact level required.

The gauges are constructed from die-cast aluminium alloy with a newly developed clear plastic gauge lens backed by a bright reflector which permits the level to be more easily seen in poorly lit locations.

These gauges are suitable for a wide range of oils with operating temperatures of up to 100deg C. Marketed by: Vactric Control Equipment Ltd., Garth Road, Morden, Surrey.

Scaffolding Light-alloy scaffolding named Instant—.is supplied by John Rusling Ltd. in 10ft by 2ft interlocking sections and can be built to platform heights up to 42ft. It can be used, for instance, in repair work on double-decker buses.

The interlocking sections are fitted with dual-braked rubber-tyred castor wheels. Stabilizing outriggers are available. The legs in which the castors are mounted are telescopic and adjustable to take account of uneven flooring and for operation on slopes. The working platform is provided with guard rails and toe-boards.
