Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• An increased fare structure for Glasgow municipal services was approved by the Corporation on June 27 by 51 votes to 35.

Introduced by Bailie John G. Warren, transport convener, the new fares, if approved by the Traffic Commissioners, will put a penny on one and two stages (5d), twopence on three and four stages (10d), 3d on five and six stages (is 3d), while seven stages and over will remain at is 3d. Fares for night services will remain unchanged.

Bailie Warren said that the transport department were heading for disaster with an estimated loss in the current year of more than £1.25m. The accumulated deficit at the end of this financial year had been estimated at around £2m when last year's loss of £700,000 was included.

Clk. James F. Reilly, claimed that an extra £250,000 a year could be gained if buses could be speeded up through the city centre by as little as one mph.
