Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

An increase of 50 per cent. in motorbus revenue is reported by the tramways department of the Southport Corporation in its annual report covering the year ended March 31st last. The total revenue on the motorbuses amounted to 16,550, as compared with 14,208 in the previous year. This was mainly due to the opening of the Woodvale section. The expenses increased from £3,071 to 45,503. The surplus of revenue over expenditure hds been pladed to the appropriation account. There was an increase in the number of miles run from 97,226 to 151,234, and the number of passengers carried was 434,568, as compared with 286,544 in the previous year. The number of passengers carried per bus-mile was 2.873, which figure is .412 less than the figure for 1925-6.

On June 6th, 1926, penny -stages and

return tickets, available at any time, were put into operation, and this has had the effect of bringing the.average fare charged per mile down from 1.314d. to 1.215d. The average fare paid per passenger, however, shows a slight increase from 3.53d. to 3.6d. The receipts per bus-mile were 10.395c1., as against 11.586d. in the preceding 12 months. The authorities at Southport own several Vulcan buses.
