ORDERS for more than Elm. worth of new machine tools have already been placed for installation in the Basingstoke works of Transport Equipment (Thornycroft), Ltd.

This news was given by Sir William Black, managing director of A.C.V.„ at Basingstoke last Friday. when he made a presentation to Mr. R. F. Newman, C.I3.E., managing director of Thornycroft, upon his retirement after nearly 50 years' service with the company.

The new equipment will supplement the existing production facilities at the Basingstoke Works, which Sir William said would produce major components for other A.C.V. Group companies in addition to maintaining present vehicle output.

" Integration of Thornycroft with its previous competitor, A.E.Q., is not the end of a story. It is the beginning of a new chapter in the history of both companies, for they are now complementary and not competitive," said Sir William.

Referring to the highly specialized Mighty Antar, Big Ben and Nubian series of Thornycroft vehicles, he described them as "world heaters and welcome additions to the A.C.V. Group's range."
