Miller, The Castle, Exeter, not later than noon on January 31.

ESSEX SEEKS ORDER. • The highways committee of Essex County Council recommends that an application be made to the Minister of Transport pursuant to Sub-section 1 of Section 46 of the Road Traffic Act, 3930, for an Order prohibiting the driving of heavy and light locomotives, motor tractors and heavy motorcars, as defined respectively by Section 2 of the Road Traffic Act, 1930, and motorcars with a seating capacity exceeding seven persons, exclusive of the driver, on the unclassified road known as South Street, in the urban district of Brentwood Glasgow to Appeal.

At a meeting of the magistrates committee of Glasgow Corporation, with reference to the eecision to defend the action in the Court of Session at the instance of Robert Baird, Ltd., and certain motor-trading concerns in Glasgow, which sought to have it found that bylaws regarding petrol-filling stations made by the corporation under Section 11 of the Petroleum (Consolidation) Act, 1928, were null and void, the town clerk reported that the Lord Ordinary had decided against the corporation.

The committee, having heard the town clerk on the question of an appeal, agreed that the decision of the Lord Ordinary be appealed against in the Inner House of the Court of Session.

Garage Extensions at Manchester.

The transport committee of Manchester Corporation is to extend the Queen's Road garage at a cost of £18,000.

Another Tramways Displacement.

On Sunday next, January 7, buses will replace trams in the Cottle and Nelson areas of the Burnley, Caine and Nelson Joint Transport Committee, Sanctions for Hull Station.

The transport committee of Hull Corporation has received formal sanctions from the Minister of Health and Minister of Transport, in connection with the central bus station and garage.

Ipswich Corporation is to extend the trolleybus system to the borough boundary at a cost of 21,480 for equipment EASTBOURNE'S LORRY PARK.

At a recent meeting of the watch committee of Eastbourne Corporation,the chief constable again called attention to the problem in connection with heavy vehicles which were not able to obtain garage accommodation at night and were left on the highway. The committee agreed to provide accommodation for such vehicles at the coach station.

The chief constable suggested a charge of Is. 6d. a night for each vehicle, and pointed out that this would not conflict in a competitive sense with any of the town garages. The committee decided to fix the charge at 2s. for a trial period.

Another Gas-bus Scheme.

Pontypridd Urban District Council may replace its petrol buses by coalgas vehicles, or, as an alternative, by oilers. The council also runs trolleybuses, but it is not proposed to interfere with these. A sub-committee of the gas committee has been appointed to prepare plans for the erection of the necessary plant at Pontypridd if the idea be deemed practical,
