16-tonner was the villain of the Manchester Canal bridge?

THE POSSIBILITY of building a £20m high-level bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal at Warrington is being studied by Cheshire County Council engineers.

A plan for a north-south expressway over the canal was removed last September from Warrington Development Corporation's investment programme, but the Department of Environment indicated that consideration could be given to the funding of the bridge by the county council.

According to Tom Walsh, the Development Corporation's chief engineer, county officials are examining the possibility of going ahead with the project as part of their transportation programme. A report is being prepared for the county council.
