of the Herbert Crow Prize is Mr. Eric F. J. Dixson, of Barnsley, traffic movement clerk at the Sheffield branch of British Road Services Ltd. This annual prize of 12 guineas is awarded to the candidate qualifying for the award of the " Diploma in Road Transport" and obtaining the highest aggregate of marks in five papers (including road transport operation (goods), Papers I and II) in the examination of the Royal Society of Arts.

Ltd.— Mr. S. J. L. Hill; chairman of the Engineering Group—Mr. Kenneth Walker (now chairman of the individual cornpanics in that group with the exception of Powell Duffryn Engineering Co. Ltd., of which he is deputy chairman, Mr. Douglas Badham being chairman). All the above are members of the board of Powell Duffryn Ltd., which also includes Mr. John P. S. Clarke, Mr. J. C. Gridley and Mr. Ingram Spencer.

Mr. Dacre Wright, for 16 years transport manager of Smith and Walton, paint manufacturers, Haltwhistle (Northumberland) has been appointed group transport manager with the Walpamur organization. Mr. Charles Jones has been appointed local director and general manager of Masterways (Scotland) Ltd., of Elderslie, near Renfrew. Masterways is a partnership between Morton's (Coventry) Ltd. and Progressive Deliveries Ltd. Mr. Jones joined Morton's in 1959 as a transport administrator. He became manwer of Masterways in March, 1963.

Mr. F. K. Pointon has been appointed a director of Blue Cars Continental Coach Cruises Ltd. and Red •Line Continental Motorways Ltd., and becomes chairman of both companies in succession to Mr. E. L. Taylor, who has resigned from the boards in view of his impending retirement.

Mr. W. F. Brown has been elected chairman and managing director of Continental Oil Co. Ltd., London. He has been in London since 1963 and was previously managing director of the company. Mr. Brown replaces as chairman Mr. G. H. Hagle, who has become a member of the board of directors and a senior vice-president (corporate) of Continental Oil Co. (Delaware), with headquarters in New York.

Mr. D. G. Codling, at present district traffic superintendent, Ulverston, of Ribble Motor Services Ltd., has been appointed manager of Stratford-uponAvon Blue Motors Ltd., as from March 1, in succession to Mr. D. D. N. Graham. As previously announced, Mr. Graham has been appointed assistant traffic manager of Ribble_ Mr. Codling joined Ribble as a traffic trainee in 1957, became assistant to the district traffic superintendent at Preston in 1960. He was appointed to his present position in February, 1963.

A reception was held recently in London to mark the retirement of Mr. L. R. (Len) Simmons, who was 32 years with the Michelin Tyre Co. Ltd. Mr. Simmons joined the company in 1932 and has lately held executive sales positions covering supplies to mileage and government contracts and to commercial vehicle and car manufacturers. For some 23 years Mr. Simmons was Michelin's representative on the Tyre

Manufacturers' Conference Mileage Group—for most of this time as a committee chairman.

Mr. D. 3. Watkins and Mr. B. W. Angel have been elected to the group management board of the Automotive Products Group. Mr. Watkins is director and general manager of the Lockheed Hydraulic Brake Co. Ltd. of Leamington Spa, and Mr. Angel is director and general manager of Automotive Products Co. Ltd., Banbury, which is the service division of the Automotive Products Group.

Mr. H. W. Masters has been appointed a sales representative in the Midlands for Crypton Equipment (MI. Group). Mr. D. W. Glassborow has been appointed head of economic research of the Transport Holding Company. Mr. Glassborow, who is 44, was previously with the economics department of the British Iron and Steel Federation, and later headed the economics division of the British Transport Commission. He subsequently became economics officer, British Railways Board.

Dr., A. P. C. Cumming has been appointed general manager of John Bull Rubber Co. Ltd. with responsibilities to the board for the affairs of its subsidiary Metalastik Ltd. At his own request, Mr. M. Goldsmith has relinquished his position as managing director of both companies. 1-ie will, however, continue as deputy chairman of John Bull and chairman of Metalastik and be primarily concerned with long-term development and growth.

Mr. A. J. Price, at present district superintendent, Hastings, with Maidstone and District Motor Services Ltd., has been appointed to succeed Mr. M. Rourke as. assistant traffic manager of the Trent Motor Traction Co. Ltd. As previously announced.' Mr. Rourke will be leaving Trent to take up a similar appointment with Southdown Motor Services Ltd. Mr. Price was appointed an area superintendent with the Yorkshire Woollen District Transport Co. Ltd., in 1959, taking up his present position with Maidstone and District in July, 1963.

Mr. P. J. Turner has been promoted from his position as service superintendent at the Oldbury depot of Leyland Motors Ltd. to become assistant service manager at Chorley. Mr, Turner will concentrate entirely on home service matters, including depot requirements, vehicle repair facilities and local meetings with vehicle operators. In the Leyland Group depot promotions, Mr. E. Wattant, formerly Lincoln depot service superintendent, becomes service superintendent at Oldbury depot, and the former chief storekeeper at Lincoln depot, Mr. F. B. Baldwin, has been appointed service superintendent at Lincoln.
