Lurching from the capitalist to the communist, I see that Moscow has now started a regular service with the electric delivery vans with which trials have been running for some months. Ten of the half-ton-capacity vans entered service on November 5; they are based on an ordinary petrol-engined chassis.
Since you could inscribe my knowledge of things electric on a postage stamp in letters a foot high, I don't know whether It's significant that the Moscow machine has an ac. engine but d.c. storage batteries, using a transformer (or should that be rectifier ?). The idea, says the Novosti Information Service, is to enable the batteries to be charged very simply from special mains points.
