ASPECIAL transporter 31 ft. wide and 53 ft, high has been built by the United Concrete Pipe Corporation, Baldwin Park, California, to carry large sections of pipe short distances 'within. their works. In effect, the outfit is an overhead gantrytravelling on Goodrich 20-ply nylon 14.00-24-in, pneumatic tyres. Under the full load of 120 short tons, the 12 tyres deflect about 20 per cent. at 100 p.s.i. The machine lifts 24-ft.-Iong 90-ton sections of pipe, which are lying horizontally on the ground, by means of a broad saddle and wire straps.
