MAN HAS developedalightweight rigid construction chassis for the UK aggregates sector, but ERF may not benefit.

The new range is based on the TG-A and will be powered by the 10.6-litre D20 EGR common-rail engine which features MAN's particulate filter and an exhaust catalyst to meet Euro-4. The chassis' weight has been cut by using lighter chassis rails, hypoid drive axles and "off-road air" rear suspension.

MAN already offers its F2000 to this sector and can supply a RI-ID version of its TG-A heavyweight construction chassis, but neither can meet the 8,500kg chassis weight required to achieve the 20-tonne payload increasingly demanded by UK operators.

Dr Karl Viktor Schaller, head of engineering of the MAN heavy truck unit, says there are no plans to fit a Cummins engine in the new rigids; asked if ERF will get the new chassis he said it was"under The new lightweight is expected to reach the UK next April 2005.
