L1CCESSFUL talks between Le Road Haulage Association id the Transport and General 7orkers Union and the United oad Transport Union this eek, have resulted in the tting-up of a second joint dustrial council.
After the talks. RHA labour lations officer Chris Dixon Id CM. "Talks between the unions and ourselves are progressing very nicely. We negotiated an agreement with the unions over the setting up of a joint industrial council to cover the Metropolitan and South Eastern area.
"This is the second jic to be agreed. The first was organised, a few weeks back, to cover the Manchester area." Not long ago, leader of the TGWU, Jack Jones was saying he was against the idea of such area agreements, but the tide seems to have turned in favour of jic's based on geographical areas.
The RHA confidently predicts there will be about 10 jic's throughout the country by the end of the year.
