By Hayley Pink HAULIERS HAVE been thrown a lifeline in the ight against freight crime with a new agency set to carry on the role of collating and analysing crime data following the closure of TruckPol last week.
The not-for-proit and independent Business Crime Intelligence Bureau (BCIB) already works with national police agencies gathering and analysing data about crime affecting UK businesses.
It is supported by major retailers such as Argos, Homebase and Iceland.
BCIB MD Amanda Oliver says the organisation will be able to provide a like-for-like dedicated service for the road transport sector, and will do so once it receives a mandate from the industry.
She adds that the BCIB is in talks this week with TruckPol’s major supporters, such as the Road Haulage Association, and that feedback from the haulage sector has been “positive”.
If TruckPol’s former backers give the green light to the BCIB getting involved, Oliver says it will be a matter of “weeks rather than months” before the new unit is up and running.
In the meantime, Nottinghamshire Police will be collating any freight crime data received from hauliers or other police forces.
