Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

To those not affected by the Olympics, we make no apology for banging on about the Games period and the effect it will have on transport. The Olympics are not only a showcase for British athletes, but also for British talent in business: it’s our chance to show the world how good we are at what we do.

It’s vital that the transport industry is prepared for disruption, so we asked Trucking Britain respondents about their readiness.

Nearly half (48%) of the respond ents expect the Olympics to have an effect on their operation (for the record, 47% expect the Games to have no effect on them). Of that 48%, we asked a series of questions.

First, how much time do you expect the Olympic Route Network and associated traffic will add to your normal delivery routes? The answers were as follows: ● Up to an hour – 15% ● One to two hours – 32% ● Two to three hours – 22%

● More than three hours – 29% So nearly a third of these operators are looking at a significant drop in productivity if their normal delivery routes will require more than three hours extra to complete. Next, we asked how much cost do you anticipate the Olympics will add to your business? A significant minority (43%) reported a relatively low hit of up to £10,000, while a quarter expect a hit of

£10,000 to £25,000. One-tenth expect a hit of more than £25,000. Rather alarmingly, just 13% expect to pass increased costs on. Only 9% expect no additional cost.

Finally, it’s pleasing to report that many of the respondents have been taking the right actions to ensure they are ready for the effect of the Olympics (see table).
