Some British manufacturers complained that this was an inappropriate time because it coincided with their summer shut-down. It also causes staffing problems at the DVLC in Swansea.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has welcomed the move to an October changeover but the garage trade body, the Motor Agents Association is not in favour. It points out that dealers will have a glut of used trade-in vehicles in October when the used market is fairly depressed.
