port statistics, relevant figures are available only for 1966. In a recent official report, the total estimated expenditure by users of commercial vehicles in 1966 was £2,350m of which, f 1,015m was attributed to wages. In 1965, the comparable figures were £2,235m and £985m.

Total expenditure in 1966 on all forms of transport was £5,310m of which, cars, motorcycles and taxis accounted for £2,550m.
