At a meeting of Section 2 of the International Road Transport Union (I.R.U.) in Frankfurt on March 28 and 29, Mr. J. A. Murly, of Continental Ferry Trailers Ltd., was elected vice-president and a member of the board of the section.
Belfast Transport Committee has recommended Mr. W. C. Wilson for the past of deputy general manager of Belfast Corporation Transport Department. The vacancy has been caused by the appointment recently of Mr. 11, W. Adams as general manager in succession to Mr. Joseph Mackie, who is retiring.
Mr. K. L. Kelly, who has been secretary-general of the Automobile Association since 1954, has resigned his appointment because of ill-health follow. ing absence on sick leave for the past three months. Mr. Kelly joined the staff of the Association in 1933.
Mr. J. Stewart, assistant general manager of J, H. Peck (Wigan) Ltd., has been appointed a director of the company. He has also taken over as general manager. Mr. G. Atkinson, works manager, has also been appointed a manager. The following Road Haulage Association sub-area election results have been announced: Mr. R. W. Ell:ott as chairman and Mr. C, II. Lewis as vicechairman of the Gloucester sub-area; Mr. C. A. Goddard as chairman and Mr. A. E. Oran as vice-chairman of the Leamington, Warwick and Stratford-on-Avon subareas; Mr. J. Hayward as chairman and Mr. J. Hubbard as vice-chairman of the Walsall and Cannock sub-area; Mr. E. Mitchell as chairman and Mr. J. Gregory and Mr. R. Grimley as vice-chairmen of the North Devon sub-area; Mr. F. M. Ling as chairman and Mr. W. J. Stoneman as vice-chairman of the Plymouth sub-area.
Mr. A. Adams has been elected chairman of the Dudley sub-area of the Road Haulage Association, with Mr. Male and Mr. B. J. Foster as vice-chairmen. Mr. D. H. Dale has been elected chairman of the Potteries sub-area, with Mr. R. G. Bassett as vice-chairman.
Mr. P. Dupree has been re-elected chairman of the Portsmouth area of the Traders Road Transport Association, with Mr. J. S. Ward as vice-chairman. Also re-elected chairman of the Thames Valley area was Mr. M. A. Burgess, the vice-chairmen being Mr. A. L. Taylor (Reading and district), Mr. C. McLeod (High Wycombe), Mr. D. P. MacDonald (Slough), Mr. E. J. W. Lewis (Oxford), and Mr. J. L Bozward (Aldershot).
Mr. R. E. Clough has been elected chairman of the Yorkshire (West Riding) Division of the Traders Road Transport Association. Mr. H. Bradley, Mr. E. Chamberlain and Mr. H. Hardcastle have been elected vice-chairmen.
Previously assistant traffic manager of the Midland General Omnibus Co. Ltd. and its associated companies, Mr. W. L Screen has been appointed traffic manager.
Mr, R. Turner and Mr. E. G. Spearing have been appointed to the board of directors of Brown Brothers Ltd.
Mr. B. A. Faulkner has been appointed manager of the North Western Branch of Esso Petroleum Co. Ltd., succeeding Mr. J. G. Benson, who has been appointed to Esso's Head Office in London as regional manager (operations) for the North of the United Kingdom.
Mr. J. Ball, sales manager, and Mr. W. K. Wardle, the company's accountant, have been appointed directors of H. Woodward and Son Ltd, The chairman and managing director of Crane Fruehauf Trailers Ltd., Mr. G. A. W. Crane, is paying a liaison visit to Fruehauf International Ltd. in the U.S.A. Mr. L. H. Allwood, chairman of Cranes (Durham) Ltd., is accompanying him.
Following the acquisition by Bromilow and Edwards Ltd. of an increased holding in Edbro-Europa N.V., The Hague, Holland, B. and E. chairman Lord Coleraine has been appointed chairman of the company and B. and E. managing director Mr. E. W. Tonge has also joined the board.
Mr. Alan Dawson, formerly domestic truck sales manager, has been appointed marketing plans manager of the Ford Motor Co. Ltd. and Mr. Ken Pendergast, previously export truck sales manager, becomes domestic safes manager. Mr. Paul Wormsley and Mr. Colin Campbell are assistants to Mr. Dawson and the complete new marketing organization is under the general direction of Mr. John Kilburn-Topp:n.
