ik AN UFACTURERS of radio and television VL cabinets, Woodcraft Productions (Cambridge), Ltd., specified composite bodywork when they ordered a van for the delivery of their products from North London to Cambridge, because of the need to avoid the danger of condensation inside the body.
Messrs. R. W. Osborne and Son, Debden Road, Saffron Walden, Essex, framed the 1,000-cu.-ft. body in ash and based it on light-alloy crossbearers, using bright-steel flitch plates.„ Side panelling is of Plymax and the roof of light alloy, whilst tongued-and-grooved boards form the main flooring and that of 'the Luton extension.
At the rear is a 2-ft. 6-in.-deep tailboard and two doors, which may be clipped back to the sides of the body. All joints are sealed against moisture seeping through. The main floor is 14 ft. 7 in. long and the interior height 9 ft. The Luton extension is 4 ft. 6 in. long and 4 ft. high. The front is sloped back slightly in order to improve the appearance.
Softwood battens are provided inside the body. Overall width of the vehicle is 7 ft. 6 in. The body weighs 161 cwt., bringing the unladen weight of the complete vehicle, which incorporates a Thames 4D 3-ton chassis with a 13-ft. I-in, wheelbase, up to 2 tons 181 cwt.
