THE County Councils' Association are urging Sir David Eccles, the President of the Board of Trade, and other Ministers to give " speedy legislative effect" to a proposal made by the Government committee on weights and measures legislation in May, 1951, that all tank vehicles and dipsticks at present in service for bulk sales of oil, and all subsequent replacements or additions, should be required to be verified and stamped by an inspector.
This follows a report from Cornwall County Council referring to difficulties being experienced in ensuring that bulk deliveries of oil to garages and consumers' premises are accurately measured.
The report refers to the fact that the committee reporting on weights and measures in 1951 stated that the petrol companies had indicated that they would have no objection to their tankers and dipsticks being brought under full weights and measures control,
