Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ADDITIONAL exemptions from the need for carriers' licences will come into force on April 16. • They refer mainly to;

(1) Vehicles fitted with plant and carrying only articles required for the operation of the plant and the vehicle; (2) Vehicles used in certain circitmstances to distribute grit, salt and so on on roads 'during the winter; ' (3) Dual-purpose vehicles, when used by commercial travellers, to carry samples, or to carry tools and materials required by the driver in pursuit of his trade, or by farmers under F Excise licence.

These changes are enacted under the Road and Rail Traffic Act (Exerription) Regulations, 1957 (Stationery Office,

3d.). They amend the 1951 Regulations.

MORE MILEAGE FARES

A PPLICAT1ONS for higher fares by .1-"t Stockport Corporation and Stalybridge, Hyde, Mossley and Dukinfield Joint Transport Board are to be heard by the North Western Traffic Commissioners at Stockport on April 16.

Stockport is seeking authority to place its fares on a mileage basis. If approved, it will mean increases of 4d. or a Id. in some cases, a number of fares in the higher ranges rising by 2d.
