NO R.H.A. POLICY ON DRIVERS" HOURS

N° policy decisions were taken at last week's meeting of the National Executive Committee of the Road Haulage Association, when the subjects noted and discussed included an attempt by the unions to persuade the Government to reduce the maximum legal working hours for drivers from 11 to 10 per day.

The Commercial Motor understands, however, that this matter is being debated informally between the unions and the employers.

The committee also talked about fuel taxation and the railways' exemption from it so far as Diesel locomotives are concerned, purchase tax on commercial vehicles, and the 30 m.p.h. limit for heavy vehicles.

It is understood that intensive negotiations have been taking place this week between Manchester Transport Department and the Unions.

THE City Hall, Manchester, has been booked for a Ford Show to be held from May 10-18. Over 70 vehicles will be exhibited. The exhibition is being promoted by the three Manchester Ford main dealers, Manchester Garages, Ltd., IL E. Nunn and Co., Ltd., and H. and J. Quick, Ltd. Over 200,000 visitors are expected.
