ONE of the new Leyland Panther Cubs for Manchester City Transport will be exhibited on the stand of Park Royal Vehicles Ltd. at the Commercial Motor Show, this month, as indicated in The Commercial Motor last week, It is a 43-seater with a wide front entrance modified to facilitate the use of a prepurchased ticket cancelling machine, and a separate central exit. The entrance can be divided so that passengers either pay the driver, or file past the ticket-cancelling machine. Curved front and rear glasses are incorporated in the design.
There will be no bus in London Transport colours at the Show this year—the first time since the war—although a London Transport-designed vehicle will be a 72-seater forwardentrance Routemaster on the Park Royal stand, one of the second batch for the Northern General Transport Co. Ltd. The company will also be exhibiting a 77-seat double-decker body on Leyland Atiantean chassis for Sheffield Corporation, incorporating curved front with flat vee glasses, and a 72-seat double-decker on A.E.C. Renown chassis for the North Western Road Car Co. Ltd., both to be seen on the respective chassis builders' stands.
Park Royal's northern associate company, Chas. H. Roe Ltd., of Leeds. will be exhibiting a 70-seat double-decker on a Daimler Fleetline chassis for Leeds City Transport, and a 45-seat 36-ft.-long single-decker on Leyland Panther chassis for Hull Corporation. The Hull vehicle will have a single-step front entrance and separate central exit, and curved front and rear glasses will be incorporated in the body design.
Powered heating and ventilation systems incorporating Smith! units will be fitted to both the LeedsFleetline and the North Western Renown. The Leeds system incorporates thermostatic control and individually operated Selectavents.
