Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A Simple Design which Can Readily Be Brought into Use.

ADISTINCT novelty in the design of coverings for the upper decks of omnibuses is disclosed in a patent specification (No. 201,219) which has just been published, the patentee being I. F. Taylor, of 5, Upland Road, East Dulwich. It may be bast and briefly described. as a, " disappear ing top.". h wall of the top deck of the vehicle is hollow and is designed to accommodate a light windowed framework or screen, which. may be raised or . lowered by means of .simple wineh meehani.sm. When raised. its aide are bi.aCed together by a number of. hood sticks, which, when notin use, are stored together with t h 0 hood material, at the front end of

the bus, after the manner of an ordinary hood.

The detail constructionof this top is extremely simple. The exterior of the frame is preferably made of T-section material, with the web of the T pointing inwards: The back of the flange thenengages the interior of a channel which is part of the hollow wall of the bus top, Mounted on the channel, at intervals, are pins which support rollers. which are designed to engage the inner edges of the flange a the T, thus affording additional support to the sliding. frame. One form of winch mechanism Which. is illustrated is rather ingenious. Ropes al'e attached to the lower part of the screen, near the corners, at the front and rear ends. They are led upwardsover palleya at the top of the housing or hollow wall, and then guided over other pulleys to the front of the bus. Across the front and covered by a suit-. -able partitiOn is a traversing screw :and nut, the screw being operated by a handle, through the medium of bevel or other gearing. The free ends of the rope are attached to the nut, of this screw so that, as the handle is turned, the nut traverses the screw and hauls in the rope, elevating the screen, or vice versa, according to circumstances, or, in other words, the weather. ,
