Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

BY THE HAWK

• When National Freight Consortium chairman Sir Peter Thompson moved house recently, he got Pickfords — an NFC member company — to handle the move, and the three-day job was actually undertaken by Pickford's Watford branch.

Sir Peter, who is pictured giving a helping hand to the boys, commented: "Moving home is a trauma. I can't say I enjoyed the experience, but (wait for it) I did thank my lucky stars that Pickfords Removals did the move and that it was carried out by a good, cheerful and professional team of experts." Well — he would say that, wouldn't he?

Just like the recent much publicised Maggie and Denis Thatcher move by Michael Gerson. In a letter to Michael Gerson Denis commented: "You are indeed served well at all levels in your organisation and you earn and deserve your world-wide reputation for service to the customer."

Good PR for both operators. I wonder whether we shall be sent photos of the invoices, as well!

• I see that residents in the Hyde Park, Paddington, Maida Vale and Bayswater districts of London are launching a campaign to "stop the crazy and destructive" proposal to turn the old Paddington railway goods yard into Britain's biggest coach station.

According to the Daily Telegraph Stuart Greenharn — a former Bayswater councillor

who is organising the opposition to the scheme — is saying that it would "ruin the lives of local people by introducing noise, dirt, vibration, litter, prostitution and parking problems."

Bearing in mind that the area concerned is one of London's busiest red light districts, and remembering the noise of a goods yard, plus the dirt, vibration and litter caused by same, I reckon that ex-councillor Greenham is either a 'rail' chauvinist, a misogynist, or a modal-discriminationist. But he could be right about the parking problem.

• Top marks for Leyland Trucks who recently launched (or should we say "relaunched") the Comet range which has been specifically de
