• RHA chairman Glyn Samuel has called for a responsible attitude to wage bargaining in the corning round of wage negotiations.
"My hope is that a responsible, level headed and co-operative attitude will prevail on both sides of the negotiating table," he told the annual dinner of the RHA's Scottish district, last week.
"Wages account, on average, for something like 25% of all costs in haulage," he said. "It is not difficult to see how we are in danger of pricing ourselves out of business."
Samuel warned that wage increases in other EEC states are lower than in the UK.
