K. W. C. Grand, a past president of the Institute of Transport. is the new chairman of Coast Lines Ltd. He was formerly deputy chairman, and succeeds Sir Arnet Robinson whose retirement was announced at the a.g.m. last week. Mr. Grand, who is 68. was in railway service from 1919 until he joined the board of Coast Lines last year. having been general manager of Western Region and a member of the 8TC. Grinling, a former managing director and executive director Derrick A. L. Rogers has been appointed general sales manager of Ford Motor Co. Ltd. tractor operations in the UK. Mr. Rogers was formerly industrial sales manager for the UK: W. J. Dewhurst, 41, has taken over from him in the industrial market. John H. Lee, formerly with Ford car and truck marketing operations at the company's Walley HQ, has been appointed marketing manager with responsibilities for the UK.

G. Brook, who was appointed a Tilling executive director on October 1, is now to join the boards of Crosville Motor Services Ltd., and Cumberland Motor Services Ltd., announces THC.

L. B. Mullett, 48. and A. P. Goode, 44, have been appointed to assist the MoT chief scientific adviser in implementing an expanded research and development programme following the recent Transport White Papers. Mr. Mullett has been on secondment to the Research Group of the Ministry of Technology; Mr. Goode has served in the Defence Operational Analysis Establishment at West Byfleet where he has been superintendent of field studies.

Aid. F. N. Easton has been appointed a member of the East Anglia Area Transport Users Consultative Committee, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Cty. Cllr, Mrs G. R. KomlosY. Chairman of Norfolk County Council's highways committee, Ald. Easton also serves on the highways and agricultural committees of the County Councils Association. He is a director of his own road haulage and farming company.

F. E. Willetts. chairman and managing director of King Truck Equipment Ltd.. is to head its new export sales division: UK sales activities will be co-ordinated by N. Woodman, with J. S. P. Tugwell appointed sales manager. trailer division: W. Ferrari, sales manager utility division: and P. L. Walker in charge of King Nomad off-road transport system sales.

R. Banks Skinner has succeeded Julian M. Leonard as chairman of Carless, Capel and Leonard Ltd.

Digby Brindle-Wood-Williams has left the Proprietors of Hay's Wharf Ltd., to join Odhams and Gunn Ltd.. public relations consultants. Clarence Rawling, company secretary of East Yorkshire Motor Services since 1931. has retired and is being succeeded by P. J. Harmer, whose designation will be secretary/accountant. Mr. Harmer has been with A. Timpson and Sons Ltd.. —like EYMS acquired by the Transport Holding Company.

Alastair Pilkington, 48. technical director of Pilkington Brothers Ltd.. has been appointed chairman of the company's Glass Fibre Division and of Fibreglass Ltd. Mr. Pilkinglon, the inventor of float glass, succeeds A. Hudson-Davies who will retire on November 1.

Alan R. Starkey, 40, technical director. Wingard Ltd., Chichester. has been appointed deputy managing director, sharing his responsibilities with J. S. McKerchar.

OBITUARY We record with regret the death of Ald. Sir Sidney Pearson Hill.

Sir Sidney. 68. a former president of the Municipal Passenger Transport Association, died in a Nottingham hospital on Saturday. Sir Sidney was chairman of the Nottingham City Council transport committee for several years, and was vice-chairman at the time of his death. A Labour member of Nottingham City Council for 20 years, he was Sheriff in 1959-60. and Lord Mayor in 1962-63. He was knighted in 1965 for his public and political services to the city. In a tribute to Sir Sidney, Ald. W. Derbyshire. Conservative leader of Nottingham City Council. said: -In the field of public transport, his infinite patience and understanding of problems will be greatly missed. He was a great man of the highest integrity.
